A Series of Gentle Exercises
Mondays, 10-11 a.m.
Class fee: $5 per lesson
Instructor: Jacqueline Rice
Description: You will learn a highly sophisticated series of martial arts exercises for both physical and spiritual health. There are many health benefits associated with these exercises on a daily basis, especially for seniors. They include:

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Increased flexibility
  • Improved stamina and balance
  • Improved mental clarity and focus
  • Increased longevity

Computer/Technology Free Time
Mondays, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Class fee: FREE (Donations welcome)
Instructor: Kimiko Tsukada
Description: Do you have questions about how to use your computer, laptop, smartphone, or tablet? Use this time to practice with different devices sending emails, making a contact list, surfing the internet, or making a budget sheet with the assistance of a friendly instructor.

Jewelry Making
Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-noon

Description: Learn to make various necklaces, bracelets, and earrings out of beads, wire, stone and other materials.

Tai Chi
Wednesdays, 10-11 a.m.
Class fee: $5 per lesson
Instructor: Jacqueline Rice
Description: Tai Chi Chuan or Taijiquan is a series of slow, flowing movements that can help to improve and revitalize the mind and body. Benefits of doing Tai Chi include increased flexibility, improved balance, relaxation and a sense of well-being.

Beginner’s Flute Course
Wednesdays, 1-2 p.m.
Class fee: $60 for full course (8 lessons)
Instructor: Yosuke Ouchi
Description: The goal of this introductory class is for students to learn to play simple songs on the flute. The class will start with basic skills, so all are welcome, even those who have never played the flute before.

Writing Class
Wednesdays, 2:45-4:45 p.m.

Instructor: Amy Uyematsu
Description: Poet and teacher Amy Uyematsu facilitates this creative writing class, which utilizes journals, poetry, stories, and news articles to help students develop their own individual writing voices

Mahjong Class (Day)
Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Description: Learn how to play mahjong. Classes are available for both beginners and more advanced players.

Mahjong Class (Night)

Sewing Class
Thursdays, 1:30-4 p.m.
Class fee: $25 per lesson for first 4 lessons (material fee included);
$15 for additional lessons (material fee not included)

Description: Learn how to sew and even make your own clothes! Machines and materials are provided.

Pilates
Fridays, 9-10 a.m.
Class fee: FREE (Donations welcome)
Instructor: Ande Kim
Description: Start your day with a class that incorporates Pilates, Yoga, and more. All skill levels are welcome. The instructor tailors movements to each student’s ability.

Morning Café
1st and 3rd Fridays, 10-11 a.m.
Class fee: FREE (feel free to bring your beverage or snack of choice)
Instructor: Yoshie Nelson
Description: Enjoy your favorite morning drink with friends. This informal gathering provides time to talk with others as well as meet and mingle with community members. Coffee, tea and small snacks are provided.

Arts and Crafts
2nd and 4th Fridays, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Class fee: FREE (Donations welcome)
Instructor: Carrie Morita
Description: Art is in everything! This class helps students learn new things and make new friends. Previous classes have included origami, manju and kimichi making as well as washi paper crafts, taiko, needle felting and even field trips. Class activities vary. Please contact FEL to inquire about participation and the activities planned for a particular month.

Kimono Wearing and Tea
1st and 3rd Fridays, 2:30-4:30 p.m.; 2nd and 4th Fridays, 2-4 p.m.
Class fee: Senior/Student $15, Adult $20
Instructor: Masayo Sebata
Description: Learn how to dress in the traditional Japanese kimono and enjoy a tea ceremony with classmates. Please bring your favorite kimono. Kimono can also be rented from the instructor (with an additional fee).
