LTSC RECIEVES $20K TO PREVENT CHILD & DOMESTIC ABUSE IN LOS ANGELES
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 28, 2008) Little Tokyo Service Center is the recipient of a $20,000 grant from the Kazuto Yamamoto Charitable Trust. This grant was awarded to coincide with the April observance of National Child Abuse Prevention Month. According to LTSC officials, the agency will use the grant award to support its programs that reduce and eliminate child abuse and neglect.
LTSC’s “Child Abuse and Neglect Education and Prevention and Outreach Program” (CANEPOP) decreases the risk and occurrence of child abuse and neglect through outreach, education and support. Staff provides educational workshops, case management, counseling, parenting classes and in-home services. Survivors of domestic violence and their children find hope and safety in LTSC’s transitional housing program called “Kosumosu.” The women are provided with counseling, job search assistance, personalized independence planning and help finding permanent housing.
“The services LTSC provides were a perfect match with the purpose of the Trust, which is to benefit abused women and children,” said attorney Gary Mikuni, the Trust’s Advisor. “Charitable giving can be just as rewarding for the donor as it is for the charity,” Mikuni added. LTSC’s Executive Director, Bill Watanabe, was happily surprised to receive the generous gift. “When individuals take the time to support a non-profit’s efforts with donations, planned gifts or by volunteering, it validates the work we do everyday, we know we are doing a good job.”
Little Tokyo Service Center is a non-profit community-based organization, which has been providing services for over 29 years to the greater Los Angeles community.
To report child abuse in Los Angeles County contact the Child Protection Hotline (800) 540-4000.
