An Office With a Great View by Bill Watanabe
ASIAN FUND DONATES $8,000 FOR LTSC!

The Asian Pacific Community Fund (Asian Fund) recently held a reception in which 30 API community groups received over $120,000 in grants, of which LTSC received over $8,000 of discretionary funds! The Asian Fund, like United Way, raises money from employees at various worksites such as the City and County of Los Angeles, as well as some private firms like Kaiser Permanente. If you know of a company, whether large or small, that might be willing to have an Asian Fund campaign for its employees, please inform Debra Fong, the Executive Director of the Asian Fund at (213) 624-6400. There are many banks, law firms, CPA offices, etc. that could support the Asian American community through the payroll deduction program enabled by the Asian Fund.

Asian Fund's 30 member agencies serve hundreds of thousands of clients, the majority of whom live in low-income and immigrant Asian and Pacific Islander communities. Programs and services include after-school programs, child care, disabled assistance, health care, legal services, low income housing, senior services, violence prevention and much more. The winner indicated that his secret to success was to slurp the tofu like a straw rather than taking big bites. Charles Bill Jr. and Danny Meza placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. The top 3 finishers received a fishing trip courtesy of Berth 55 restaurant. An estimated 20,000 people made their way down to Little Tokyo to enjoy the Tofu Festival on August 18-19.

The Green Foundation Awards Grant to After-School Program

The Green Foundation will help expand the after-school classroom to include a dedicated outdoor space.

The Green Foundation awarded a grant to LTSC’s After-School Program. The grant will be used to expand the after-school classroom to include a dedicated outdoor space. Currently the program must share its outdoor space with other programs. This expansion will improve the after-school program and allow for more activities including gardening and recreation and give the older youth separate time inside to study and spend time with mentors.

The Green Foundation supports a variety of educational programs in both public and private schools and after-school facilities in an effort to effect positive change in communities throughout Los Angeles. On behalf of the youth we serve, LTSC wishes to thank the Green Foundation for their support.
