How Your Support Makes a Difference

Healthy, Happy and All Together

LTSC’s Kosumosu Program provides a long-term transitional housing program for survivors of spousal abuse and their children. The women have fled abusive relationships with their children to live at LTSC’s Kosumosu housing in a secluded and confidential location. Once in the safety of our 7 unit transitional housing facility, the women are provided with counseling to help them and their children heal from their emotional wounds, job search assistance, personalized independence planning, care-management and help finding permanent housing.

house When Ms. Y fled from her husband, her two sons (age 19 & 20) were not able to live at Kosumosu with her and her daughter because they were over the age of 18. As a result, her sons continued to live with their father as they did not have anywhere else to go. It was very difficult for Ms. Y to be separated from her sons. One of her goals for her future was to live with all her children. To achieve this Ms. Y knew she needed to finish her education. Twenty-five years ago in 1987, Ms. Y finished 8th-grade but had not been in a classroom since. Ms. Y could not have imagined she could ever go back to school and learn again. But, soon after Ms. Y entered the Kosumosu program she began working on her goal. She began attending community college and had ups and downs struggling with math but eventually received her GED Certificate within a year.

After 24 months in the Kosumosu Program Ms. Y started looking for permanent housing and submitted applications to a few apartments. This was one of the big steps that Ms. Y had to take in order to become fully independent. Ms. Y applied for an apartment in one of LTSC's affordable housing communities. Finally, the good news came in! LTSC had a unit available that was large enough to accommodate all of her children. Today, her dream of living together with all her children in a violent-free home has come true.

LTSC Receives Grant from The Eisner Foundation

LTSC has received a general operating grant from The Eisner Foundation. With this support LTSC will continue to serve seniors living in Los Angeles with case management services, information and assistance, support and services for caregivers, mental health counseling for seniors and in-home visits for seniors who are socially isolated. This support will also allow LTSC to produce and distribute educational materials in multiple languages and make presentations to groups of seniors on topics such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, identity theft and fraud prevention, home safety and fall prevention.
Seniors

The Eisner Foundation is dedicated to bringing about lasting changes in the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable people starting and ending their lives in Los Angeles County. For the aging, The Eisner Foundation strives to provide lasting change in the lives of older adults, with a special emphasis on those that are especially vulnerable due to poor health or poverty. The Eisner Foundation pursues this objective by partnering with high-performing non-profit organizations that advocate on behalf of seniors to provide access to health care, safety in their environments, cultural enrichment, and the opportunity to age with dignity.

LTSC would like to thank The Eisner Foundation for partnering with us to serve seniors in Los Angeles.
