Boodo Comedy Show

Join us for the “BOOdo” Comedy Show, a Halloween installation of a comedy show series held at Terasaki Budokan. The BOOdo Comedy Show features a diverse lineup of comedians and local AAPI-owned small business vendors. Ticket proceeds support Budokan’s mission-driven community programs. 


About the Performers

Derek Mio (host) – Host Derek Mio is a 4th generation Japanese American actor and comedian from Huntington Beach, CA descended from Terminal Island and Manzanar.  He was the lead in AMC’s The Terror: Infamy and is also known for his appearances on tv shows GREEK, Medal of Honor, and Spooked as well as films Day of Independence, G.B.F. and The Emoji Movie.  He has performed standup comedy at various venues including The Comedy Store, Laugh Factory, and Hollywood and Brea Improvs.

Rory Scovel – Rory Scovel is a comedian, actor, writer, and painter.  He has performed on Comedy Central, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon as well as Conan and @midnight with Chris Hardwick.  Rory has released multiple comedy specials including the entirely improvised Live Without Fear (2021) which can be viewed on YouTube.  His film and television credits include Ground Floor, Undateable, Wrecked, Babylon and Physical on Apple TV+.  He is the co-host of The Pen Pals Podcast.

Al Madrigal – Al Madrigal is a comedian, writer, actor, and producer.  He rose to fame on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart as a regular correspondent for five seasons.  Al is known for his co-starring roles in the film Night SchoolShowtime‘s dark comedy I’m Dying Up Here, and NBC‘s About A Boy.   He appeared in the sports drama The Way Back, starring Ben Affleck, as well as Sony’s Spider-Man Universe film Morbius as Alberto “Al” Rodriguez.  He has performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Conan and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.  He is a co-founder of the All Things Comedy podcast network, alongside Bill Burr.

Jolene Purdy – Jolene Purdy is a 4th generation Japanese American actress and comedian. Purdy starred as Cherita Chen in the 2001 cult classic Donnie Darko.  Her television credits include the Fox sitcom Do Not Disturb and the ABC Family comedy series 10 Things I Hate About You.  She had a recurring role in the Netflix drama series Orange Is The New Black as well as Marvel‘s WandaVision.  Jolene can be seen in the first season of the HBO award winning series The White Lotus and she stars in the feature film Unseen, directed by Yoko Okumura, which is streaming on Amazon Prime.

Tatyana Guchi – Tatyana Guchi is a first generation Japanese American on her mother’s side.  She is the newest Laugh Factory Fresh Face and a finalist for Breakout Comedian of 2023 in the Because They’re Funny Comedy Festival.  She is a co-founder of the improv group Bernie Mac & Cheese which hosts weekly improv workshops every Tuesday at the Budokan and performs every other Monday at the Westside Comedy Theater in Santa Monica.
