09 Feb LTSC Thanks Outgoing Board Members
On Friday, January 26th, LTSC thanked our departing board members for their many years of service to our organization. The expertise, wisdom, and guidance they brought to our different sectors of work were invaluable, and they will always be cherished members of the LTSC family.
Akemi Arakaki – 15 years of service
George Tanaka – 11 years of service
Mark Usui – 10 years of service
Kirk Sasaki – 5 years of service
Maria Cabildo – 2 years of service
We had the chance to speak with outgoing board member George Tanaka, Managing Director, Head of Japan Practice at U.S. Bank, about his time with LTSC and the hope he has for its future.
How did you come to join LTSC’s Board of Directors?
I’ve always been aware that LTSC was the premier social services organization to the Japanese & Japanese American community. And I’ve always respected Alan Nishio, who introduced me. When an opportunity arose to join the board, I jumped at the chance to serve.
As you became more familiar with the organization, did anything surprise you about LTSC?
The depth and breadth of the services we provide, especially our commercial real estate expertise.
What do you wish more people knew about LTSC?
The impact on the community LTSC provides, starting perhaps with the number of people served. It’s a lot!
Do you have a program that’s near to your heart? Why?
I would say the Japanese language social services. It’s so rare and we often serve the most desperate in our community, who have nowhere else to turn to.
How do you plan to stay connected with LTSC’s mission moving forward?
Not only by staying engaged in the Little Tokyo community, but I’d like to make sure U.S. Bank keeps funding LTSC in a meaningful way.
