LOS ANGELES – Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC), a community development and social service nonprofit in Downtown Los Angeles, joins Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AAPI) service and civic engagement organizations in supporting California Prop 50 ahead of the November 4, 2025 special election. For organizations serving minority populations like LTSC, Prop 50 is a tool to ensure fair representation and resource allocation to underserved communities. Vote YES on Prop 50 this November.

What is Prop 50?

Proposition 50 is a California state initiative designed to enact Congressional redistricting in California in response to recent similar redistricting in other states. It will give California voters the opportunity to cast a vote on temporary Congressional redistricting maps that could shift California’s Congressional representation, and would expire in 2030.

Why should I vote YES?

The President called upon Texas politicians to make an unprecedented mid-decade change to their congressional district boundaries, for the explicit purpose of retaining their dominant party control of Congress in next year’s 2026 elections. They are saying they are doing this in order to continue the current Administration’s agenda of mass deportations, severe cuts to safety net programs such as MediCal, CalFresh, and housing, and ending Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts at all levels of society.

California put Proposition 50 on the ballot, to give all Californians an opportunity to enact redistricting to counter the moves by Texas.

For organizations like LTSC who serve people who have been harmed by current policies, Prop 50 is a tool to ensure fair representation and resource allocation to underserved communities.

Vote YES on Prop 50 this November.

How would this measure work?

Prop 50 would allow for a temporary change of California’s district boundaries in next year’s election. The California Citizen Redistricting Commission will stay in place and California would go right back to regular redistricting after the 2030 census.

Who’s supporting this ballot measure?

This measure is being put forward by California Governor Gavin Newsom and has been endorsed by supporters including:

  • President Barack Obama
  • CA Congressmembers including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
  • CA Senators Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff
  • Labor unions including the CA Federation of Labor, the CA Teachers Association and the SEIU CA State Council
  • Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California
  • Coalition for the Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles Action Fund
  • AAPI coalitions and organizations including AAPI Equity Alliance

How and when can I vote in this Special Election?
